Mysterious! Found your child walking around at night with pale face and in confused state of mind. Don’t worry it is because of sleepwalking which is very common among kids. It is also called Somnambulism in which a person is in slow wave stage at lowest consciousness half sleep and half awake. Some kids start sitting on bed while sleeping, while some start walking outside, opening windows and doors, holding dangerous equipments or things even driving! But generally as per the records there are only few cases registered of people behaving hazardously, mostly kids do simple and basic things that are not dangerous for anyone. You can prevent sleepwalking by knowing how exactly does it happen, what are the causes? So here I have the main reasons due to which your child walks in sleep. I’m sure these causes will help you in making your child’s sleep risk free!
1. Genital Or Hereditary
Studies have found that most of children nearly around 45% sleep walk because their parents also does the same in their childhood. It is genital and child received it as a hereditary. Your kid can do hazardous things which must be taken care of for safety! But still one must take some preventive measure to keep the kid out of danger.
2. Stress And Tiredness
Kids are full of energy all the time; they are quite more active than adults. But sometimes kids may feel stressed out due to social and academic pressures. Kids may get tired due to weak immune system or nowadays parents involve their kids into many other extra activities like dancing singing or in outdoor games practices due to which child may feel tired and stressed and due to high pressure they sleep walk! Make sure you don’t put extra pressure on your child for any activity. Try to keep your child stress free and happy!
3. Sleeping Schedules
Irregular sleep patterns are also one of the reasons for sleepwalking. Due to some manger changes in sleeping schedules child may get less amount of sleep which is not enough. Your kid may get inattentive and feel sleepy all the time due to which kids walks while sleeping where he/she is half awaken and half sleep and at that time it is hard to wake your kid up from deep slow wave sleep stage. Suffering kids have no idea of what they were doing in sleep. So make sure you child have enough sleep of 8 hours a day for better growth and It will also help your child to get rid of sleep walking !
Sometimes due to wrong medications kids can start to walk in sleep, as a side effect. Make sure you give proper amount of dosage to your child as suggested by doctor. Avoid high power medicines and consult doctor if you have any doubts regarding it.
5. Deprived Sleep
Sleep deprivation can effect directly on brain and cognitive system. It is a result of less hours of sleep which can result into sleepwalking, fatigue, illness, less consciousness and weigh loss or weight gain. So to avoid such situations make your babies sleep at proper time and take minimum of 7-8 hours of sleep daily. Sleepwalking cannot be cured but it will disappear in growing age of child.
If you child suffers from sleep walking, consult your doctor immediately as it may result in some more serious disorders.
